Hello colleagues from the Asia team,
As I get ready for my next project, I thought it would be a good time to check in with you. My time here is going really fast. A lot of long days working, however, all worth it. Below I am sharing with you some of the projects we have completed in the last three days. I am also sharing photos and a video of the events.
We completed a food distribution in a community with 75 families. We provided enough supplies to last for approximately three weeks. Supplies included flour, lentils, rice, cooking oil, salt, sugar, etc. We also had the opportunity to provide treats to the children of the slums. We provided them with chocolate, cookies and mango juice. As you can see from the photos below, the mango juice seemed to be their favorite. We will definitely take this as a lesson learned.
We also completed a medical camp. We brought a local Doctor and three Nurses to the slums. We set up the medical camp at one of the edges of the slum and hire two locals to inform its residents about the camp. One hundred and sixty-five people came to the camp and were all checked by the local Doctor, assisted by the Nurses.
During the camp, a mother brought her three-year-old son who had severe burn skin. His sister (five-year-old) inadvertently kicked a pot with boiling water, some of which landed on his skin. The child had only received basic wound cleaning, inadequate to the level of the burn sustained. Thanks to donations we were able to transport the child to a local prestige private hospital. The donations helped cover the cost of his medical treatment. The child must come to the hospital every day for the next 14 days.
I hope everyone is doing great. I look forward to continue sharing with you my experience in India. Let me know if you have any questions.
Billy.
